Overview of our Statistics Project - Leonardo's Work

We are Subgroup 2 of ND0901 from NYP Accelerated Diploma in Nursing, presenting our very first blog - a study on Leonardo's work to verify the proportionality of the human body.

Our blog title, "car-chew" is actually the term "leg-hand" in Chinese dialect (Hokkien).

We are measuring whether the length of the foot is equal to the length of the forearm, thus finding out whether there is a relationship between the two variables. In this case, our 2 variables are the length of foot and forearm.

Introduction

Topic question
       ·     Do you agree with Leonardo's work on how the size of one body part is related to that of another body part?

Research topic
       ·     Relationship between the length of a person’s feet and their fore arm

Research Question
      · Is a person’s length of their feet related to the length of their fore arm?

Variables
      · Length of a person’s feet
      · Length of a person’s Forearms

Testable Hypotheses
Null hypothesis (H0)
      · There is no relationship between the length of the feet and the fore arm
Research Hypothesis (H1)
      · There is a relationship between the length of the feet and the fore arm

Conceptualization
Body parts that we are going to measure:
(1) Length of Forearm- The perpendicular distance measured from the Midpoint of ante cubital fossa to midpoint of carpal bone in centimetre.

            (2) Length of Foot - The perpendicular distance measured from the tip of the longest toe to the tip of the heel in centimetre.

Note: We will compare the right forearm with the right foot, and left arm with the left foot

Operationalization
      · Forearms are measured using a measuring tape in centimetre.
      · Feet are measured using a foot chart in centimetre.
